Code of Conduct

Applicable to: Junior Performance Aqua 1 Aqua 2 Yellow Orange Aqua 3 Green Blue Purple Senior High Performance

This Code applies to anyone participating in FAST activities and/or representing FAST in any manner.

Definitions

  1. The following terms have these meanings in this Policy:
    1. "Individual"  refers to all categories of members of FAST, as well as to all individuals engaged in activities with or employed by FAST, including, but not limited to, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, parents, guardians, siblings and/or relations of members, spectators, directors, officers, coordinators, committee chairs and members, team managers, team captains, and administrators.
    2. "Code" refers to the FAST Code of Conduct.

Purpose

  1. The purpose of this Code is to ensure:
    1.  A safe and positive environment within FAST programs, activities and events, by making all individuals aware that there is an expectation at all times of appropriate behaviour consistent with the Principles for True Sport. See Appendix A.
    2. A positive image and reputation of FAST.

Application of this Code

  1. This Code applies to conduct during the course of FAST business, activities and events, including but not limited to, its office environment, competitions, practices, training camps, travel, and any meetings of, or on behalf of, FAST.
  2. This Code also applies to the conduct of individuals that may occur outside of FAST's business and/or activities when such conduct adversely affects relationships with FAST and its environment and is detrimental to the image and reputation of FAST.

Responsibilities

  1. All individuals have a responsibility to:
    1. Maintain and enhance the dignity, rights and worth of FAST members and other individuals;
    2. Refrain from any behaviour that constitutes harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, or violence;
    3. Be ethical, considerate, fair and honest in all dealings with other people and organizations;
    4. Be aware of and adhere to all FAST policies, rules & regulations, and guidelines, including but not limited to those outlined in Appendix B;
    5. Abstain from the non-medical use of drugs or the use of performance-enhancing drugs or methods.  It is the swimmers responsibility to conform to the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport (CCES) and World Anti-doping Authorities (WADA) rules in regards to performance enhancing drugs;
    6. Respect the property of others and not wilfully cause damage or distress;
    7. Adhere to all federal, provincial, municipal and host country laws;
    8. Respect the decisions and judgement of officials;
    9. Immediately report to the Head Coach or member of the Board of Directors, any incident that may cause considerable harm, physical and/or emotional to another individual;
    10. Promote swimming in the most constructive and positive manner possible.
  1. In the case of individuals over the age of 19, in addition to paragraph 5 above, responsibilities include:
    1. Avoid consuming alcohol in situations where minors are present, and take reasonable steps to manage the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages in adult-orientated social situations associated with FAST events.

Sanctions

  1. Should I conduct myself in such a way that brings discredit or discord to FAST and/or violate any part of the Code, I voluntarily subject myself to disciplinary action. FAST maintains the right to suspend or terminate any membership should there be a breach of the Code of Conduct, and any refund as a result of a termination will be considered and determined by the board.
  1. FAST adheres to the Swimming New Brunswick Discipline Policy and the Swimming New Brunswick's Appeals Policy. See Appendix C.
